Welcome to Irish Rock Band, Peel's Web Site.
Peel formed back in 1998; the five band members of
Peel all grew up together in Sallynoggin on the Southside of Dublin and all come from
working class background's with their music containing that unique "pebble dash sound" of
years gone by. They believe that it's all about back to basics. The guitar, bass guitar and
drums all feature strongly in Peel's music which they write and
perform in a style of their own.
Peel launched their debut single "Spacer" on 11th May 2000 in aid
of The Temple Street Hospital Children's Fund. The single was described by 2FM music guru
Dave Fanning as being 'Infectious and Poptastic ' with the late Uaneen Fitzsimon also of
2FM and leading cult television show 'No Disco' describing it as being a "Catchy top notch
single by a young cool Irish band".
Peel have already been tipped in leading UK music magazine MOJO as
being Ireland's answer to RadioHead but, as lead singer Gary explains, "It's not about
being bigger or better than anyone else. Can we play live? - Yes. Do we enjoy performing
and writing our own music? - Yes. To us, that's what it's all about."
Peel have filmed a video to their single "Spacer", featuring the
ever lovely Peelettes. They have played support to bands like
Aslan and Big Country and have performed at festivals with the likes of Simply Red and The
Charlatans on the same line-up.
Peel's achievements to date include winning the right to represent
Ireland as part of The IMRO (Irish Music Rights Organisation) over in London back in May of
2000. Peel have a growing fan base among students in Ireland and,
even more surprisingly, their single, "Spacer", received rave reviews from radio stations
and magazines in the UK. Peel are hoping that their music will soon
be recognised by a leading record label - Sony Ireland, at one stage, expressed an interest
in acquiring their talent.
Unfortunately, with the imminent departure of guitarist, Tony, for Australia,
Peel are soon going to be calling it a day. "But we won't be going
quietly", promises Gary. "The new single's out in a couple of weeks and then stay tuned to
the website for details of our monster farewell gig". Says Tony, "This isn't the end of the
band, I'm only going for a year. We've been together for nearly three years now and we've
had some great times, I'd be mad to want to give that up. I will be back and, hopefully,
some day, so will Peel".
